HypromelloseAbout hypromelloseThis belongs to the group of medicines known as ocular lubricants.Hypromellose eye drops are also known as 'artificial tears'and are used in the eye to relieve dryness and irritation caused by a reduced flow of tears. In certain circumstances they can reduce damage to the eye.Hypromellose can also be used as a lubricant for artificial eyes and to moisten hard contact lenses.Brands available include Isopto Alkaline and Isopto Plain. Before using hypromelloseBefore using hypromellose eye drops make sure your doctor or pharmacist knows:if you wear contact lenses if you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine if you are taking or using any other medicines, including those available to buy without a prescription, herbal or complementary medicinesHow to use hypromelloseWash your hands well before use Remove the outer cap Tilt the head back and pull the lower lid of the eye down to form a pocket Hold the container between the thumb and middle finger of the other hand, turn the container upside down near to the eye, but try not to touch the eye Apply enough pressure to the container to release one drop Close the eye and keep it closed for a minute or two. If you think that you have missed the eye, then insert another drop Repeat in the other eye if you have been instructed to use hypromellose in both eyes Replace the outer cap on the container, trying not to touch the applicator tip with any surface, including the eye or fingers Wash your hands after useApply the drops three to four times a day, unless otherwise directed by your doctor. For very dry eyes, this preparation may need to be applied every hour.Getting the most from your treatmentIf you wear hard contact lenses, remove them before using the eye drops. Leave them out for at least half an hour before re-inserting. You should not wear soft contact lenses while you are being treated with hypromellose. If your symptoms do not improve within a few days, or if they become worse, check with your doctor or pharmacist. If you also have to use any other eye drops or ointments, leave at least five minutes between each one. Hypromellose should always be the last preparation used. When first instilled, hypromellose may cause blurred vision. Make sure you can see clearly before you drive, operate machinery or do other jobs which could be dangerous if you were not able to see properly. Can hypromellose cause problems?Hypromellose can occasionally cause a mild stinging sensation in the eyes, which should soon disappear as your eyes adjust to the new drops. If this continues or becomes severe or if you experience headaches, eye pain, changes in eyesight or constantly red eyes stop using hypromellose and contact your doctor or pharmacist for advice. How to store hypromelloseKeep out of reach of children. Omeprazole delayed-release capsules are also used to treat conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid. Omeprazole delayed-release capsules are also used in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori (a bacteria that causes ulcers) and possibly prevent new ulcers from developing in patients who have or have had ulcers of the small intestine. The delayed-release capsules are usually taken once a day before a meal, but may be taken twice a day when used with other medications to eliminate H. pylori or up to three times a day when used to treat conditions in which the stomach produces too much acid. The capsules are usually taken once a day in the morning on an empty stomach one hour before a meal. Do not mix the medication with any other liquid or with food.If you are taking the powder or the regular capsules, be sure that you are taking the strength and the number of capsules or powder packets that your doctor prescribed. If you were told to take one 40-mg capsule or powder packet, do not take two 20-mg capsules or powder packets instead. They do not contain the same amount of medication as one 40-mg capsule or packet. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about how many capsules or packets you should take.Do not take nonprescription omeprazole for immediate relief of heartburn symptoms. It may take 1-4 days for you to feel the full benefit of the medication. Call your doctor if your symptoms get worse or do not improve after 14 days or if your symptoms return sooner than 4 months after you finish your treatment Do not take nonprescription omeprazole for longer than 14 days or more often than once every 4 months without talking to your doctor.
